The Spiritual Emptiness of Abundance

Deuteronomy 8:3

King James Version (KJV)

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.

Have you ever been hungry? Really and truly hungry? If you have you discovered something when you ate. It was that the simplest food tasted wonderful and it satisfied your hunger. And yet, when you have plenty of food to choose from, the taste is no longer the same. Either you search for something to fulfill that desire or you decide it isn’t worth your time.

America‘s beginnings were in hunger. Her people were hungry for freedom to worship the way that they wanted. That hunger established a country that appreciated the freedom and desire to worship our God. And in our desire to make it that everyone should be able to worship freely, we opened our doors wide and told the world to come on in.

What we didn’t realize is that in opening our doors, it was not only those who truly wished to worship that would enter, but also those who wished to pervert and prevent the worship of the very God we are so blessed to worship. Our abundance became gluttony. A church or two on almost every block here in my own state and a variety of choices to please anyone.  Shopping for a church is almost like deciding what ice cream flavor that you would like. And then if it doesn’t taste the way that you think that it should, just choose another.

Going to church is no longer even thought of by many as a privilege, it is treated as an expectation. Something you do every Sunday, like eating your next meal. Abundance and yet no longer fulfilling for so many. So they start new churches that tell them as long as they accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they can do anything that they want, that any prayer will be answered, that Jesus was a wonderful man, but really just a man you know, that it’s okay to force others to do what you do because you are right and your salvation depends on making them do the right thing, that the Bible is really just a history book written by men and really who knows if any of it is right or not.

This is where we are!!!!! A nation filled with rot!!!! Abundance of faith is becoming our own cesspool of destruction. We have become so full of ourselves that we fail to see what God has given us.

And yet it hasn’t always been this way. There were periods where churches and faith in God grew tremendously. Take the Great Depression for instance. This was a time of great hunger and fear. But the hunger wasn’t just for food. It was also a hunger for God. It was a time when churches were filled and miracles happened. If you listen to the people who do missionary work, they will tell you how hungry the people that they visit are for God. Why? If you truly pay attention you will notice how little material possessions they have. Like abundance, hunger seems to turn people either to God or to evil. Light and darkness! That dividing line is always there! And yet one very obvious thing becomes apparent, people want more when they have less.

The people of Israel wanted freedom when they were slaves, our founders wanted freedom to worship, people in India, China and other places, are looking for God because they have been denied that chance. God let Israel remain in slavery until they truly hungered for freedom. Our founders got the opportunity and established this beacon to the world. God is sending people throughout the world with His message for the hungry.

But what of us? Have we lost His grace with our gluttony and the perversion of His word? Have we lost His grace with the practice of sanctioned murder of the innocents with abortion, or the forcing of perversion upon our children with the increase in the teaching that homosexuality is appropriate and perfectly acceptable?

If hunger is the driving force that makes us truly desire God, I am afraid that we are going to go through a period of time where we are going to suffer a great hunger. We are already headed down that path. And I don’t mean just spiritual hunger because we will have lost our ability to worship freely and to share our faith with our children. The path that we are on is one that will call for sacrifice and hunger on a material plane as well. We will be like the prodigal son. After all, he didn’t return to his father because he was fulfilled, he returned because he was hungry and he knew that his father would feed him even if he were a slave.

Luke 15:14-19

King James Version (KJV)

14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

Matthew 5:6

King James Version (KJV)

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Luke 6:21

King James Version (KJV)

21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

Luke 6:25

King James Version (KJV)

25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

Philippians 4:12

King James Version (KJV)

12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

What We Are Not Paying Obama For

There are several good stories out today asking the question that Gov. Chris Christie asked of Mr. Obama, including the one that I have linked to below, I would like to point out some of the things that we are not paying him to do, and yet, like the thief in the night, he is doing it with our money.

  1. We are not paying him to campaign 27/7
  2.  We are not paying him to go around the world apologizing for our actions
  3. We are not paying him to get us involved in even more wars
  4. We are not paying him to tell us what to eat and how that our food needs fixed
  5. We are not paying him to teach our kids to cheat, steal, bully and altogether forget what we are trying to instill in them
  6. We are not paying him to party
  7. We are not paying him to give away our treasure
  8. We are not paying him to tell us how we can farm the land, and what we can grow on it
  9. We are not paying him to mock and attempt to destroy American citizens
  10. We are not paying him to sue every state that is doing something that he doesn’t like
  11. We are not paying him to open our borders and let anyone who wants in come in
  12. We are not paying him to decide that the laws enacted by the Congress don’t really mean anything and therefore he can do what ever he wants.

These are just a portion of the things that we are not paying him to do, and yet he is doing every one. There has to be a limit sometime and somewhere that we can put a stop to him doing things on our dime that we do not want. In less that a year now, we will decide if he is going to be replaced, and someone new installed in the office that he has done nothing but abuse since his election. We must look at how he has gotten away with so much, and restore the Presidency to the position that was intended in our Constitution. This also means that Congress must regain the role that it was given, instead of letting the Presidency become almost a regency.

The Constitution of this Country was established with the ability to correct wrongs. However there has to be the will of the people in order to do so. There must be pressure put on Congress in this next election to ensure that they understand that we are not willing to allow this to happen again. And whomever we elect a President from now on, must realize that they are there at the will of the people and that they will be allowed there only so long as they respect that and are willing to serve!

What Are We Paying Obama For? And Can It Get Worse?

by Thomas Del Beccaro

It’s simply hard to imagine this passes for a Presidency.  At what point does he become simply too much for the senses?  Sure we have had some interesting and bad Presidents before – recently in fact.  Nixon changed our view of the Presidency for the worse.  Carter was beyond ineffectual.  Bush 41 broke a huge promise. Clinton wagged his finger while lying – and a bit more than that.  But this President is truly something and it’s not just the facts that are bad – it’s his excuses and manners that make this Presidency so incredibly bad.

Let us count the ways:

A.  The Economics.

This list is well known by now – but that doesn’t mean it is highlighted by the Media as it would be of a Republican was president.

  1. Unemployment at 9% for a historically long time.  According to Obama he inherited this mess and blames President Bush and ATMs.  Yes Obama believes automation, like ATMs, is to blame – as if such automations like automobiles (accounting for nearly 20% of our economy) and computers (creating employers like EBAY and Microsoft)  are the cause of our unemployment.  Beyond that, Obama joked that he was wrong about “shovel ready” projects, created the “Saved” jobs category out of thin air, and claimed that the stimulus bill would prevent unemployment from going above 8%.  What’s missing, of course, is a plan to lower unemployment – let alone actually lower unemployment.
  2. Gas Prices.  They are currently 85% higher than when he took office.  He shut down our Gulf oil production for ideological not actual reasons and delayed a Canadian pipeline for political reasons.  When Bush 43 saw high gas prices, the Media told him to go his friends in the Middle East to ask them to raise production.  Since Obama wanted $5 gasoline all along, he has no plan to lower energy prices and the Media doesn’t harp on the issue.  Meanwhile the economy is hurt badly because of the higher costs of energy that reduce purchasing power and hurt employers everywhere.
  3. Foreclosure/Home Mortgage Crisis.  This is the one part of the economy that actually is in a crisis that is “the worst since the Great Depression” – a phrase Obama is fond of overusing.  Obama has continued the policy of bailing out the Banks for foreclosure related losses, encouraged Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailouts instead of reforming them and now he has sued the very Banks he bailed out because of their foreclosure practices – and no, there is no plan in sight let alone true relief.
  4. The Deficit.  It has quadrupled under Obama.  Yet he says inherited it – and rather than change it, spending has actually gone up each of this 3 years.  Obama’s solution: have other people come up with a plan – he was traveling or on vacation. When it failed, he said he knew it would fail.  So Chris Christie rightfully asks:  What are we paying Obama for? Failed Liberal Progressive Social Programs Bankrupting America The United States of America has had a AAA credit rating since 1917. That rating survived WWI, the Great Depression, World War II, The Korean War, Vietnam, Jimmy Carter, 9-11, and those “unfunded” wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Most Terrifying Thought of the Day--Obama: "I'm not even halfway done" Via Legal Insurrection: “It’s been a long, tough journey. But we have made some incredible strides together. Yes, we have. But the thing that we all ought to remember is that as much as good as we have done, precisely because the challenges were so daunting, precisely because we were inheriting so many challenges, that we’re not even halfway there yet.
