Faith Confronts the Erring Brother

James5:19-20

Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,

let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

James 5:13-18

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing plalms.

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let the pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced fruit.

Ephesians 3:14-21

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,

that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height–

to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Put Off the Old Man

Colossians 3:5-11

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,

in which you also once walked when you lived in them.

But now you must also put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.

Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,

and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.

Parable of the Marriage Feast

Matthew 22:1-14

And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said:

“The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son,

“and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding and they were not willing to come.

“Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.” ‘

“But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business.

“And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.

“But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.

“Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you can find, invite to the wedding.’

“So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.

“But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment.

“So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.

“Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

“For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Annie:

We don’t always see life’s success stories and there are hundreds like this. Here was a gal of humble beginnings, initially thought to be developmentally challenged and was laughed at. She persevered at her dream and showed that the ‘Doubting Thomases” were wrong about her. We may not always succeed this well, but we should dream this big if we’d like. Find and follow your dream!

But, success doesn’t come without a price. The stress ‘ of her meteoric rise to success ‘got to’ Susan Boyle as she chewed out reporters and police. She didn’t win the competition, “Britain’s got talent” in 2009, but she proved to the world that she could dream a dream…and succeed.

Most of us with a chronic illness have given up a dream, have experienced losses that most could never imagine. Susan Boyle’s loss was that she wasn’t prepared for success. Our losses are many and our challenges great. I encourage each of you to dream, dream realistically, but to be able to say, “I had a dream…”

I already have an award related to food and storytelling (http://foodstoriesblog.com/food-stories-award/) but it just seemed so narrow. People have asked if they could give it to other blogs so I thought I might want to make one that is a little more inclusive of everyone. When I visit other blogs, I always learn so much from the informative content or blogging techniques or personalities, etc … I always learn something so I wanted to be able to offer this to everyone.”

The LORD Takes Pleasure in His People

Psalm 149

PRAISE the LORD!

Sing to the LORD a new song,

And His praise in the congregation of saints.

Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;

Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

Let them praise His name with the dance;

Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.

For the LORD takes pleasure in His people;

He will beautify the humble with salvation.

Let the saints be joyful in glory;

Let them sing aloud on their beds.

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,

And a two-edged sword in their hand,

To execute  vengeance on the nations,

And punishments on the peoples;

To bind their kings with chains,

And their nobles with fetters of iron;

To execute on them written judgment—

This honor have all His saints.

Praise the LORD!

The Holy Spirit Came Down

Acts 2

New King James Version (NKJV)

Coming of the Holy Spirit

2 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The Crowd’s Response

And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.” 12 So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”

13 Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.”

Peter’s Sermon

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. 15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.
18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days;
And they shall prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in heaven above
And signs in the earth beneath:
Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
And the moon into blood,
Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
21 And it shall come to pass
That whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Shall be saved.’

22 Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know— 23 Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken[c] by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; 24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.25 For David says concerning Him:

‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face,
For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad;
Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.
27 For You will not leave my soul in Hades,
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the ways of life;
You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’

29 “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.30 Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, 31 he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

34 “For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself:

‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
35 Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”’

36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

Questions of Morality

loopyloo305:

hat tip to “wheresmyTbackandotherstories.http://wp.me/p2cyAK-Lp
This attitude is a prime example of those who think that they have the right to decide the value of a persons life. If you read what they say, you will very often find that they make these valuations on whether that person is a drag on their own lives, or if that person offends their sensibility in some way or other. He says “I don’t know how death panels ever got such a bad name.”
He doesn’t seem to understand that death is a valuable part of living and suffering teaches us lessons on how life should be lived.
Those who think that anything that takes away from their enjoyment of life should be done away with, have no real understanding of the value of the life that they would so quickly, end.
The culture of death leads to such a disturbing devaluation of life itself, that those who push it need to be questioned often as to their real reasons.

Throughout the Old Testament prophets, the Lord not only speaks to the individuals who were dwelling in the nation of Israel, but He also spake to the government of the nation of Israel as well.

One example of this is found in our text, Haggai 1:2-7.  The common people of the nation had forgotten to put the Lord and His worship first in their lives and, in our text, we read of the devastating results to their individual families.  They were facing times of famine, want and dissatisfaction. They no longer exercised wisdom in their money management and, therefore, were unable to meet their basic physical needs.  All of this, because they no longer put the Lord first, but had lived selfish lives, desiring to accumulate wealth instead of using their possessions for God’s glory and honor.

Not only was this the condition of…

Evil in any form must be highlighted and pointed out, otherwise, it will continue to fester and the cancer from it will destroy us all. This man may not be evil himself but the tactics that he uses are pure evil.
