Attempting to obey God and follow Jesus Christ our Lord

Life

At one time I thought that most people would automatically stop to help someone who was hurt or dying. There have been many stories lately of people that instead of stopping and helping, just walk on by. Or even sometimes steal from them or abuse them in some way.

I truly believe that this is one of the worst facets of our current culture of death. How can we expect people to respect life and consider the importance of that life, when it is treated with such disregard by a large portion of our society? How can people who are convinced that it is quite okay to kill an unborn baby, believe that life is sacred. How can they believe that life matters when it doesn’t seem to to all the people that they know?

We are facing a generation who have no concept of the importance of life, and worse, we have leaders who actively embrace this culture of death. These leaders are at the highest level of our government, from the President on down. And besides their own beliefs, they are determined that those of us who believe in life, must give in to their desires and encourage and promote death. They believe that we should even pay for it and will go to any lengths to force us to do so.

This is the ultimate battle between life and death. Unfortunately, death seems to be in the ascent at this time. It is important that we work together to change this trend. It will be something that God will consider when judgment day comes, because if you are not opposed to this, you are saying that it is okay. There is no fence that you can sit on here. There is no middle of the road. Either you choose life, or you are supporting death. There is an election coming up, and we know that those who are in charge now, support death, I would encourage you to investigate their positions yourself and choose life.

Biltrix has a post up this morning that was inspiring and a wonderful question for all those who would rather pretend that life does not begin at conception. Please take time to visit their site and read this and other important posts.

Obamacare “Secrecy Clause” Demands Payment for Abortions

by Alan Sears

When Congress passed ObamaCare in March 2010, then Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Cal.) admitted she didn’t know what was in the bill, but promised constituents and fellow politicians, “We’ll find out what’s in it once we pass it.” Talk about a harbinger of things to come.

And in the two years since the bill’s passage the American people have not only found out what’s in it, they’ve discovered that part of the legislation purposely hides the fact that ObamaCare covers abortions. (This although politicians supporting ObamaCare repeatedly told the American people that abortion would not be covered.)

When looking through the pages the healthcare overhaul, specifically Sec. 1310(b)(3), on page 781, one finds the “Secrecy Clause.” This clause outlines how ObamaCare both demands that insurance companies pay for abortion and that they co-operate with the White House by keeping this coverage secret. “Fruit of the Spirit”

Galatians 5:22-26

But the fruit of the Spirt is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

And those who are Christ‘s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

“Works of the Flesh”

Galatians 5:19-21

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornification, uncleanness, licentiousness,

idolartry, sorcery, hatred, contintions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,

envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Conflict Between the Spirit and the Flesh

Galatians 5:16-18

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Practice of Liberty: Love One Another

Galatians 5:13-15

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

Position of Liberty: “Stand Fast”

Galatians 5:1-12

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing.

And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law.

You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.

You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?

This persuasion does not come from Him who callls you.

A little leaven leavens the whole lump.

I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is.

And I, brethren,if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased.

I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off!

Moral Implications of Christ‘s Resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:29-34

Otherwise, what will they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead?

And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour?

I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”

Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God, I speak this to your shame.

1 Corinthians 15:20-28

Order of the Resurrection
But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ, all shall be made alive.

But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christs’s at His coming.

Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.

For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.

The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.

For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted.

Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.

Fact of Christ’s Resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:1-11

Fact of Christ‘s Resurrection

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand,

by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you— unless you believed in vain.

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,
and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.

After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.

After that He was seen by james, then by all the apostles.
Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you beiieved.

1 Corinthians 15:12-19
Importance of Christ‘s Resurrection

Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen.

And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is vain and your faith is also vain.

Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up— if in fact the dead do not rise,.

For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.

And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!

Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

If in this life one we have hope in Christ, we of all me are the most pitiable.

Brother Randolf is right in this, we are our own worst enemies. But I think that perhaps, we are beginning to change and a great renewal is happening. Many Pastors are realizing that they need to change and are doing so. Thank you for this excellent post my friend!

Walt Kelly’ Pogo always had something wise to say.  Frankly, I don’t know that he had exactly what I’m about to say in mind when he created the famous scene above, but, hopefully he wouldn’t disagree.

In my most recent series on John 3:16, I took brief looks at what I thought were the most pertinent concepts within that singular piece of genius teaching.  As I have ruminated all of that over the past week or so, I’ve come to the conclusion that God is doing His part in our relationships with Him.  He’s right here, calling us by name.  We are the one’s who do not respond and grab on to Him for dear life (c.f.  “….Jesus and Mary Magdalene at The Tomb”).  As such we are our own worst enemies.

Yea.  I mean “we”.  I totally include myself in this at least as much…

Doctrine of the False Teachers     2 John 7-9

For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.

Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

Avoid the False Teachers    2 John 10-11

If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him;

for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.

Prayer of an Overwhelmed Saint

Psalm 102

Hear my prayer, O Lord,
And let my cry come to You.
Do not hide Your face from me in the
day of my trouble;
Incline Your ear to me;
In the day that I call, answer me
speedily.
For my days are consumed like
smoke,
And my bones are burned like a hearth.
My heart is stricken and withered like grass;
So that I forget to eat my bread.
Because of the sound of my groaning
My bones cling to my skin.
I am like a pelican of the wilderness;
I am like an owl of the desert.
I lie awake,
And am like a sparrow alone on the
housetop.
My enemies reproach me all day long,
And those who deride me swear an oath
against me.
For I have eaten ashes like bread,
And mingled my drink with weeping,
Because of Your indignation and Your
wrath;
For You have lifted me up and cast me
away.
My days are like a shadow that
lenghtens,
And I wither away like grass.
But You, O LORD, shall endure forever,
And the remembrance of Your name to all generations.
You will arise and have mercy on Zion;
For the time to favor her,
Yes, the set time, has come.
For Your servants take pleasure in her
stones,
And show favor to her dust.
So the nations shall fear the name of the LORD,
And all the kings of the earth Your glory.
For the LORD shall build up Zion;
He shall appear in His glory,
He shall regard the prayer of the
destitute,
And shall not despise their prayer.
This will be written for the generation
to come,
That a people yet to be created may
praise the LORD.
For He looked down from the height of
His sanctuary;
From heaven the LORD viewed the
earth,
To hear the groaning of the prisoner,
To loose those appointed to death,
To declare the name of the LORD in
Zion,
And His praise in Jerusalem,
When the people are gathered
together,
And the kingdoms to serve the LORD.
He weakened my strength in the way;
He shortened my days.
I said, “O my God,
Do not take me away in the midst of
my days;
Your years are throughout all
generations.
Of old You laid the foundation of the
earth,
And the heavens are the work of Your
hands.
They will perish, but You will endure;
Yes, all of them will grow old like a
garment’
Like a cloak You will change them,
And they will be changed.
But You are the same,
And Your years will have no end.
The children of Your servants will
continue,
And their descendants will be
established before You.”

Dangers of False Teachers   2 Peter 2:1-3

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

Destruction of False Teachers 2 Peter 2:4-22
For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;
and did not spare the ancient world, but save Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;
and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly;
and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed with the filty conduct of the wicked
(for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous sould from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)—
then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,
to especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed; they are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries,
whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.
But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption,
and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you,
having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, beguiling unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.
They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.
These are the wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, to whom the gloom of darkness is reserved forever.
For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through licentiousness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.
While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.
For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.
For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.
But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

Baptism of Jesus

Appearance of Christ to the People

Appearance of Christ to the People (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Matthew 3:13-17

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordon to be baptized by him.

And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?

But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.

Then Jesus, when He had been baptized, came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.

And suddenly a voice came heaven, saying “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Psalm 71 A Prayer for the Aged

In You, O  LORD, I put my trust;

Let me never be put to shame.

Deliver me in Your righteousness, and

cause me to escape;

Incline Your ear to me, and save me.

Be my strong habitation,

To which I may resort continually;

You have given the commandment to

save me,

For You are my rock and my fortress.

Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand

of the wicked,

Out of the hand of the unrighteousness and

cruel man.

For You are my hope, O Lord God;

You are my trust from my youth.

By You I have been upheld from my birth;

You are He who took me out of my

mother’s womb.

My praise shall be continually of You.

I have become as a wonder to many,

But You are my strong refuge.

Let my mouth be filled with Your

praise

And with Your glory all the day.

Do not cast me off in the time of old

age;

Do not forsake me when my strength

fails.

For my enemies speak against me;

And those who lie in wait for my life

take counsel together,

Saying, “God has forsaken him;

Pursue and take him, for there is none

to deliver him.”

O God, do not be far from me;

O my God, make haste to help me!

Let them be confounded and consumed

Who are adversaries of my life;

Let them be covered with reproach and

dishonor

Who seek my hurt.

But I will hope continually,

And will praise You yet more and more.

My mouth shall tell of Your

righteousness

And Your salvation all the day,

For I do not know their limits.

I will go in the strength of the Lord

God;

I will make mention of Your

righteousness, of Yours only.

O God, You have taught me from my

youth;

And to this day I declare Your

wondrous works.

Now also when I am old and gray

headed,

O God, do not forsake me,

Until I declare Your strength to this

generation,

Your power to everyone who is to

come.

Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high,

You who have done great things;

O God, who is like You?

You,who have shown me great and

severe troubles,

Shall revive me again,

And bring me up again from the depths

of the earth.

You shall increase my greatness,

And comfort me on every side.

Also with the lute I will praise you—–

And Your faithfulness, O my God!

To You I will sing with the harp,

O Holy One of Israel.

My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing

to You,

And my soul, which You have

redeemed.

My tongue also shall talk of Your

righteousness all the day long;

For they are confounded,

For they are brought to shame

Who seek my hurt.
